I think I'm going to go ahead and implement a reverse SMTP probe from a Perl script at the MTA level. If it works well, I'll write a qmail SMTP patch in C to do the same thing. That will give me an idea of how much spam this system will block, and if it has any gotchas. Then, I'll make a list of MTAs that don't accurately send 550 when the RCPT TO: is bad, and deal with those MTAs (like qmail) with some sort of fuzzy checksum or pattern matching at the TMDA level. Stay tuned. I'm almost done with my migration (Tuesday), and I should have some time to work on this stuff shortly thereafter. -- Jesse Guardiani, Systems Administrator WingNET Internet Services, P.O.
