Hi Karthik,
Now I can say something on FDP. The way you have chalked out a plan for FDP
now and the way we have done/thought are totally mismatching. Thats why it was
a big no-no. We (only 5 members) discussed about this in our meeting. What we
are doing now is:
1. Cook the food
2. pack them
3. Carry them to 2-3 places for distribution
The problems were:
1. Cooking every Sunday? (Who will do it regulalry? We need atleast 8-9
teams/volunteers and these 8-9 can cook in rotation on Sundays so that the 1st
volunteer needs to cook again after 2 months). How many such volunteers we
have? The less number of people, the more the frequency. Is that always
acceptable?
2. The Sunday when one will cook and pack(read, alongwith others), will spend
75% of the Sunday in this job.
3. What help/difference we are going to make by providing a one-time meal
(which I will not call a full-meal) to people?
4. We thought that distributing to beggars won't be a good idea as most of
them are professionals. Hence it would be good to provide food to needy people
especially near hospitals (hospitals like NIMS/LVPEI etc) so that it would be a
help. But only one time during their stay?(Because the average stay of a
patient will not be more than a week). So whats the use of so much of work?
Thats why we (atleast I) could not think much on FDP. Now that you have
thought about a broader idea where we really can make some difference, the same
can be worked upon. Like contact the wholeseller for supplying the grocery at a
concessional rate, fix up a transporter and fix-up an institute where the funds
are low. Then go for checks to see if this is working really or not. Since food
is not something one-time like Blankets/shoes/books/bags, I could not convince
myself about the idea (and possibly others could not think for the same
reason). Now the idea you have given is really nice and seems FEASIBLE to me
keeping aside FUNDS.
Here we can ask all our members, if we can take up such a project as this
would be a regular activity, we wont be involved in all the steps, hence
volunteer problem is not there for this type of project.
But please remember, the FUND outflow would be very very high for such a
project, nevertheless, it will fetch desired result.
Any comments/suggestions are welcome.
Ratan
