Hi Prasanthi,

I'll create this excel spreadsheet in the format you have requested and
send it to you by end of this week. Please remind me on saturday or
something, if you haven't yet received it.

In the meantime, I have some thoughts regarding what you have written

   1. The excel spreadsheet needs to have a column regarding purpose of
conversation initiation or why we are contacting that specific group or what
about the NGO appeals to us.

   2. While its good that you have initiated step #1 for this project, more
needs to be discussed regarding how we'll use the data from the spreadsheet.
Maybe we need to add a page on our website for the directory, so that it is
easily searchable on the web.

   3. At a later point in time, each of the NGO listed in the directory
needs to take a life of its own, according to your idea of showcasing the
NGOs. What I mean to say is, the NGO name in the directory will not be a
static name but a dynamic link to a webpage about how our group interprets
the NGO that has been listed, kinda like an one page summary of the group.
Finally, there should be a link to the NGO's website, if any.

    4. Regarding searching NGOs by activity type, too many people need not
be involved. Where people are needed is for populating the columns of the
excel spreadsheet.

These are my initial thoughts. Will think more on this and suggest
approaches.

Cheers!
Karthik

  Hello Friends,

Let us start the activities.

I do not remember who are all in the NGO Co-ordination team except for
Karthik.

Karthik,

Please start working on this task.

Why are we doing this?

1. To identify NGOs/GOs/groups with whom we can work, like-minded
2. To introduce NGOs, who are working on one problem area, to each other,
so that they can share their knowledge and experiences. They can form a
group of particular problem area and they can start voicing their opinion
(campaign) more loudly and clearly.

What we can do?

The team mails to concerned persons in the group and initiate a dialogue.

1. Tell them that we are trying to create a directory of groups working
for society
2. Eventually we will form a platform where we will provide scope for
showcasing the activities, to serve the purpose to the core
(May be we can come up with a quarterly newsletter in Print too - not
sure)

How best we can do?

1. Let us start searching in each problem area so that we do not end up
working on the same group.
Say for example, one person will search for organizations, groups who
deal with differently abled persons (physically challenged) and mentally
retarded. One will search for orphanages, one for old age homes, one for
child labour etc.,

Let us create an Excel sheet with these fields:

S.No. - Name of the organization - Registered or Unregistered or
Government - Contact Person and his details-- Contact Details of the Company
-- Date of Approach - Volunteer (who communicated with this organization)
-- Status --- Remarks

I am not sure how many of us in Hyderabad can participate in this work. If
anyone are interested, please reply to this mail saying about the problem
area which one wants to explore. For now, let us restrict ourselves to
organizations working in and around Hyderabad.

P.S.: I have been talking with like-minded groups here. I will come up
with the details soon. There has been good developments here and as the days
pass by we can see a very good progress in our efforts.

Please reply, especially those in this team.

Thank you.

with regards,
Prasanthi.
