Thanks suresh.

Yes i read about the same in tripod pages and sourceforge project repository
too.

Here 2 points that I have:

1. Collection of the database might be a parallel activity.
For development of this portal what we could need is the meta data of the
various types(users, roles(volunteers, doctors,NGOs,donors etc). This can be
premitive with just sufficient info in the beginning, we can update the same
regularly during project implementation. List of tasks(donor querying DB and
finding out a case and donating money..sort of) role - task management(could
be bundled into menu management based on role), transaction\work flow
management which could actually mean managing the status of each case and
all the activiites associated with it. Also a notification system which
could send out mails based on the rules(for so and so type of case creation
send mail to associated\interested parties alone).

2. Why haved multiple sites with similar functionality? (OPMS, students &
farmers etc). Why cant we just have one global portal having all the
functionality? you know what, it is all about bridging the gap between the
needy and the rest of the society who can help the needy.

Can you give me details of the thought process that happened on other
projects, so that we can start thinking of accumulated requirements.I might
be sounding bullish, but I know how complex it is to build heterogenous
systems that serve same\similar functionality.re-work\integration etc is not
worth of developing multiple systems.

I was looking at a framework called radicore <http://radicore.org/>, which
looks promising (can be used for our project). If we are not able to use it
we can atleast use the concepts.

Finally, i am interested to see initial version of the application working.

Thoughts please!

We sort of started out on this project way back last year and somehow
lost the momentum completely.

Before we get into the actual implementation of the project, there is lot
of homework that needs to be done. For example:

1) Prepare a database of

    a) Individuals who supported our activities.
    b) Groups who supported or will support.
    c) NGO's who supported or will support.
    d) Doctor's who supported or will support.

This should top the priority list as such a database would not help the
OPMS system but any other groups who are doing similar work. This database
will be published online so that everybody has access to this.

2) Specifications & Requirements document: It is important that we
streamline our efforts and know exactly what the scope of our project would
be. This will help us in distributing the responsibilities accordingly.

The real benefits of technology can be felt only if the poor can taste
it's benefits. OPMS is just one such benefit , I've similar projects for
farmers , education and other areas.

Honestly , it will be a long wait before these projects see the light .
