Heh. :) Fair enough, though.

Yeah, pretty much. It's expectation setting, really -- if people are used
to using /opt/sfw/bin/vim -g (or the like), then it'll be hard to sell
them
on moving vim to the WOS but removing a pretty major feature. *I* don't
care, 'cause I never use the GUI, and it's certainly not a regression in a
very narrow sense, but ...

This may be an expectation in the small group of people that use the CCD,
but for the larger group of Solaris admins, who manage servers, and don't
use Solaris as a desktop, probably won't mind. (They will just be happy to
see vim included.)

Also, as I recall netbeans runs on multiple platforms. If this is the
case,

Pardon for probably getting the distinction between netbeans and Sun
Studio
all mixed up, but I'm probably talking about the latter. And it *does*
come with its own vim. But one thing the ARCs like to emphasize is to use

bundled tools if at all possible. And to pressure the teams integrating
those tools to make themselves usable by as many consumers as want them.

It sounds like this will require refactoring of Sun Studio as well. I'd
rather this proposal did not rely on work from another group. (Please run
this by the ARC to see if this is going to be ok for now). I don't mind a
seperate project to integrate vim with Sun Studio, once vim is already in.

So there is, I think, a reasonably strong argument to have GUI support in
the WOS version of vim. I'm not sold either way, though.

There may be a strong argument, but my point is, if it is not included, it
can always be added later without risk of breaking something. If it is added
now, and we find a need to change things up, we will be stuck. We should
take this in steps as opposed to trying to conquer the world in our first
go.

Agreed, as long as there is a commitment to add and update static language

Absolutely.
