I think that identifying the pusher has value, e.g., for audit trail purposes. But now that you mention it, that could just as easily be a field in the notification email, rather than forcing the From address to the pusher. We discussed my proposal Wednesday afternoon on #onnv-scm for awhile. Rich Lowe pointed out that if we use the pusher's Auth entry, all the notifications to the onnv-notify list would appear to come from a single user. (This is because of the way that onnv-gate is mirrored on opensolaris.org.) I thought this was a stopper for my proposal, but I get the impression from your email and Alan's email that it isn't something I need to be concerned about. We also discussed continuing to use the changeset author for the From address, but not trying to map lo...@hostname (Mercurial's default) to a fully qualified email address. Just use nore...@opensolaris.org if the address isn't properly qualified. A quick scan of the October archives for onnv-notify suggests that we wouldn't have to use noreply often. Okay, does anyone think there's a serious problem with just setting the return address to a fixed address like nore...@opensolaris.org or notify-dr...@opensolaris.org? mike _______________________________________________ tools-discuss mailing list tools-discuss@opensolaris.org
