Hi Michael,

yes. Previous versions of GEF only supported JPG and BMP. JPG is not  
lossless, and as a result the image may look blurred. BMP should be a  
better option. Anyway, I just discovered (as you write) that GEF now  
also supports additional formats, including PNG and GIF. So I have  
added those for the next release. However, I don't see support for  
vector graphics (which should in principle be easy to support for them).

Please try bmp for now and let me know if this is still not sufficient,
