Just realized that I made a small mistake:

ex:SingletonShape
       a sh:NodeShape ;
       sh:targetNode ex:SingletonClass ;
       sh:property [
           sh:path [ sh:inversePath rdf:type ] ;
           sh:minCount 1 ;
       ] .

The mistake is that rather than making the shape the class, it needs to use the 
class as the target node.
