I typically use the sync tool because when checking outgoing changesets, it is easy to miss ones that aren't on the visible graph. I also don't know of a way in the explorer to specify only pushing changeset X or branch Y. Please keep the sync tool unless there is some way in the explorer to see a simple list of outgoing changesets and to specify a changeset/branch on the incoming, outgoing, push, and pull.
