Hi all,
At 19 I guess I count as a younger member and as a Canadian, it must seem a
little odd I got into Madness at all. (But I can assure you On The Beat
Pete, that it had absolutely NOTHING to do with mad parents...my dad cringes
whenever he hears them. For a while, all he heard from my room was One Step
Beyond.)Anyhow, when I was 12, there was a Britpop day on Muchmusic, ("the
nation's music station') and when they announced Madness were up next, my
older sister made me sit and watch. (She had recently learned of ska and was
suddenly an expert on the subject.) So I sat and watched the beginning of
One Step Beyond and danced around the room for the last part. What can I
say, I was blown away and had developed quite the crush on Carl. (Which
still exists to this day.) I made my mom but me a Madness CD which I'm sure
she regrets cos it didn't leave my CD player for a really long time. To make
a long story short, it didn't take long for me to develop quite the Madness,
two-tone and first-wave ska collection. While all my friends could recite
the names, ages, b-days etc.. for the backstreet boys I could do the same
for Madness, the Specials and the Clash ..( surprisingly, none of them gave a
*%#&* and weren't terribly impressed with my skill. I think they were
jealous.) Anyhow that's my story..sorry its not incredibly interesting.
Katie
