Hello Simsey and all -
I apologize if I didn't make myself clear...I certainly wasn't trying to
resurrect the ethical discussion of bootlegs again. And you certainly
did a thorough job of digging up the corpse to show us how dead it is!
;-) Again, that wasn't my point even a little bit.
What I was apparently saying poorly, was just this. You don't always
know with bootlegs if they are "original" or not, and after a while it
all starts to become so grey I found myself not caring anymore.
Copy...original...who can tell? Not all CD-R's are colored on the back
anymore. There are color printers that can do a terrific job making
color covers, yet with bootlegs often the "officially printed" covers
are so muzzy you'd thing it was a poor color copy. And so many
bootleggers are using CD-R's these days for their "originals". Heck, I
bought a CD on-line directly from a band of their own music and got a
CD-R. Original? - I'd say so! Not to mention that in at least one
instance that I am aware of, there are two "original" bootlegs with two
diferent names running around of the same recording. It all seems very
grey to me.
One final thing has been nagging at me. If someone had posted the
details of a personal financial transaction of mine to the list for
people to discuss I would be unbelievably angry. The more I think about
it the worse of an invasion it seems to me. I think Yannick has been an
incredibly good sport about us discussing something that is so very much
none of our business.
- Elizabeth
