John, I'm curious as to whether these are the difficult to drive type
headphones like the HD 600, HD 650 (my model, a 16th birthday present)
and the elusive HD 800 (maybe if my parents feel really generous for a
belated 21st gift). For all my speakers, sub, centre, CDP, amps, if I
could only have one piece of hifi, it would be my Senns. I do have the
MF X-can v3 valve amp., but I don't really like it, too fatiguing.

My current view on audio is that the speaker/headphones are the most
important component, while amps, if they can handle the impedance curve
and power requirements of the speaker to make them sing, don't make a
huge difference. Underpowered amps don't let the speaker sing I find,
sure you get the benefits of the better detail and bass in the speaker,
but they don't sing! I recently had a 2002 model very expensive Naim
CDP player at home, and it was barely any better than the MF CDP from
2004 (less than a third of the Naim price), so I've come to the
conclusion, that while changes in source make a difference, the
sweetspot in the price vs performance curve hits at a lower price than
amps and certainly speakers.

So the upshot, do you think the Touch can make these headphones sing?
