My entire library was mp3 intially setup for my iPod.  I moved to FLAC
once storage space became rediculously cheap.  I was glad that I did. 
The squeezeboxes (SB3 in this case) definitely revealed differences I
could hear between my mp3s and FLAC.  They were subtle, but they were
there.  I found it advantageous to move.  It also helps that FLAC is
the unstated standard format for squeezeboxes, so its playback is
stable from release to release.

Yes!  It did that to my CD players.  It's been years since I've played
a CD in my house.  I actually have used my turntable more often to
digitize some of my old lps to listen on my squeezebox.
