Thank you toby10 for getting with the spirit!

Yes, this was a totally legitimate order I placed through "major online
retailer" two weeks ago and paid in full by credit card.  It arrived at
my door in an official carton from said retailer with their return
address on the label.  Inside was what appeared to be an official
Squeezebox Touch retail box.  It was sealed on both ends and contained
all the packaging you'd expect: a black inner box inside of which was a
black plastic tray to hold the Touch and a smaller box underneath that
should have held the power supply.  Both of these things were missing,
however, and in their place was the contraption I photographed above. 
I did get an owner's manual so all was not completely lost.

As I said above, when I called major online retailer to tell them what
had happened they promptly agreed to send me a replacement via two-day
delivery.  Hopefully, it will not be another power brick.
