@mortslim, there is at least one other explanation and it's the one that first came to my mind (what this says about me I'm not sure): someone purchased the product, kept the good parts and returned the items I received "unopened" for credit. If the original purchaser re-sealed the retail box in a convincing way and the weight was about right, wouldn't the retailer just put it back into inventory?
