I DID say to use a self powered drive! The Touch just supplies the amount of current specified by the USB spec, a number of drives use more than that and have problems with the Touch. Auto spindown is a problematic issue. Spindown by itself is not a problem, but some drives will disconnect from the bus as well, THIS is a BIG problem. So some people bought a drive with the ability to adjust the settings, but the software is on a "virtual CD" which is a separate partition designed for windows, but the Touch is linux, so it can get confused by this virtual CD. So yes, best bet is a self powered drive that does not sleep at all. But those are difficult to find. So one with a way to change settings, but doesn't do it with the "virtual CD". But then again some drives that spindown are perfectly fine. Its hard to make general pronouncements on this.
