Thats what EXT3 is all about. It takes care of the case of a shutdown in the middle of something going on, it works.
I have a headless system with an EXT3 formatted drive that gets turned off by flipping the switch on a power strip. It has been turned off many hundreds of times without a single corruption. If its writing a file when the plug is pulled it may not have proper "end of file" records or whatever in place, but the file system will not be corrupted. For example if you put a EXT3 disk on the Touch, and pull the plug in the middle of a scan, the scan will not be complete, but the file system will be fine. But if you manually stop the server in the middle of a scan you also have an incomplete scan.
