Nice that you solved your problem :)

Did you really use a 75 digital cable ? Transparents analog cables have
this weird networks on them and would not do as an digital cable.
But they seems to have  an 75 Ohm cable .

For spdif I would use blue jeans cables or marcus cable (but marcus
have closed shop lately) .

Both are essentially a very good belden 75 Ohm cable with canare rcap
rca connectors prices are so resonable that DIY seems a waste of time
and rcap conectors demands a special crimping tool then you have to do
>10 cables to earn the money spend on the crimping tool .

But as you also have meridian you probably have bunches of that blue
digital cable lying around in the boxes where the M stuff came :)
You get them for free in most M products.
