At the file system level, my albums are organized by /music/artist/albums/tracks, and for compilation albums I have /music/Various Artists/albums/tracks. Nothing very complicated. If I know the artist, it's just a couple clicks to get to a particular track. This approach is useful when maintaining the library outside of SBS, such as editing tags, etc. It can also be used with SBS when using "music folder" browse, which navigates your folder/file tree directly.
SBS uses the tags/metadata to allow a much more flexible approach, using the familiar Artists, Albums, Genres, Years, etc. characteristics to identify the unit of analysis for your browsing. This is how I usually look for music in my library when I am actually playing it (as opposed to editing tags, making backups, etc). That all describes how to find things when you know what artist, album, genre, etc you are looking for. If instead you are really looking for suggestions based on what is currently playing, I second maggior's recommendation of MusicIP.
