If you are talking directory structure, I follow what others do (artist/albums) with a directory level above that (Classical, R&B, Jazz, Rock/Pop and so on.)
However, that is still a bit arbitrary as there are plenty of albums that cross genres, have multiple artists, etc. Are you not using the Squeezeboxserver search capability? If I happen to know where an album is located, that's the fastest route. However, with 50,000 songs in my collection, there are plenty that escape the front row of memory cells in my brain.
