Afiak EAD was the only ones that used ST cables back then, it is not the
same cable nor is it the same transcievers and recievers as Tos, optical
can be finicky about such things.. It migth not work at all.

Coax seems to be the natural choice here,it is usually better
implemented than toslink in most products( Toslink can have the edge if
galvanic isolation is needed ).

Go for a coax cable, if you try to revive the olde hifi , get a cheap
but ok coax and spend the money on speaker foam or maybe refresh some
crossover components, Mirage did they use electrollytic cpacitors in
thier crossovers ?

2ch hifi is unfashionable decent 2ch amps can be had used for
surprisingly low prices, especially if you are able to repair old
stuff.
