Well, where do I start? With a bit of embarrassment.... I've finally worked out why so many of my directories were empty but in sayng that, I don't know how. It seems that at some point a whole load of information has disappeared from the tagged data so that the Artist information was missing. The reason I didn't suspect this earlier was that when I moved the drive back to my PC to check what I could see under SBS I was obviously looking at slightly out of date information. I didn't do a rescan. What I can't understand though, is that I moved a load of troublesome directories off the external drive back onto my PC and then checked them with mp3tag and could see nothing missing so I copied them back. Is there something in the act of copying that strips metadata from files?
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I made sure I had all my files on the external drive and ran mp3tag to show every single file, then filled in any gaps in all of the columns, including adding comments (just in case). In future I'll copy all my ripped CDs onto the external drive before checking them in mp3tag.Although I still have a few problems I know that they all boil down to the tagging and I can snag them one by one. I'm still not happy, though. I've been working with computers for over 20 ywears. If I had been an ordinary Joe in the street, buyng this setup and expecting it to work I would have sent it back pretty sharpish. Having a good working knowledge of tagging and a basic understanding of unix or telnet sessions shouldn't be a pre-requisite to buying a bit of hardware to play music on. IMHO Thanks to everyone who responded with suggestions. What would we do without the internet? To Ronni - you've definitely got a tagging problem there, but I don't know enough yet myself to be able to help you. I'm going off now to find out if I can find a tutorial! -- Gillinger ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Gillinger's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=46364 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87858 _______________________________________________ Touch mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
