Nobody needs to know anything about telnet... Just plug the drive into a computer... I'm not sure how you expect any software/hardware to deal with your music library if the tags are not more or less complete and correct - the only clue they would have would be the filenames/folder structures. If neither of these are usable, nothing is going to help :-) The fact is that the "Ordinary Joe" is likely to have used something like WMP (yuck) to rip their CD's, and so will have tags and will be fine...mostly. Anyone else will have used DBPoweramp or EAC - like you did! - will be intimately familiar with MP3Tag and therefore will not be an "OJ"...
