Hi John, thank you for your comprehensive answer. Conserving power is the main reason behind me wanting to actually power the SBT down. I try to do the same for all devices in my house that use any type of stand-by mode -- provided they tolerate being powered down. Keeping the SBT off when I do not use it for listening to music would save only about 11 Euros/year, but still...
You are right, rescanning does not take as long as the initial scan. At this time, I am still working on shuffling my entire CD collection (mostly baroque music) to the USB flash drive. Although I am a regular Linux user and C programmer, hacking the server is beyond me. At this point, I do not believe that any files interfere with the scanning process.
