I don't mean to sound ungrateful for the help but most of them do cost both money and time; I have no space elsewhere for the stuff that's on the HDD so I can't do any of the format, partition, try small etc. (although I'm ok, because it already is NTFS in a single partition without any tools/utilities). Without buying new hardware for a solution that may or may not work out in the end there doesn't seem to be much I can do except update to the 7.6 beta and read the suggested thread which I will do
