Another speed/reliability tip for the Touch's USB performance is to have
the Touch's SBS server ignore any/all non music files.
You can do this in one of two ways:
1.  Do use a dual partition, music on P1, all others files on P2. 
Touch will only see P1. 
2.  Rename the top level folder(s) containing the non music files,
placing a dot before that folder name.  So if all of your movies are in
a folder named Movies just make it ".Movies", SBS will ignore folders
with such dots.

I'd suggest #2 as this does not require reformatting and Touch can get
squirrely with multiple partitions.
I'd also make sure you have at least 10% free space on that USB HD at
minimum.
