With the exception of the new 7.6 "upgrade" to SBS, my experience with the Touch has been error free. The best way to utilize the Touch (in my opinion) is to store all your music on an external computer running SBS. I have the Touch and this external computer connected over my home network via ethernet cables. I would not try to run the Touch and it's internal server (TinySBS) with a connected hard drive. I think the Touch is just too underpowered for larger music libraries. Especially if you're music is stored in a lossless format.
