>From other threads I see that you are running LMS on a PC. In this case
ignore that status you were describing, its regarding the internal
server, which you do NOT want running if you are running an external
server.

The Squeezebox system has a "discovery protocol" where both servers and
players broadcast messages trying to find each other. If these
brodcasts do not make it through your network the player and server may
not see each other. This situation can be caused by a firewall either in
the computer running LMS or in your router. The broadcasts use a
different protocol than the actual music streaming, so its definitely
possible to have the discovery messages blocked but still have music
play.

Do the Touch and server never find each other or do they sometimes
connect and sometimes not? If they never see each other then you might
have a firewall issue. If they sometimes see each other, but sometimes
don't, then it is probably a network issue, particularly if you are
connecting with WiFi. Particulalry with WiFi sometimes the Touch
doesn't get an IP address from your router, and then it can't talk to
anything. If you get into a situation where it can't talk to anything
check to see if it has an IP address on your network. You can find this
under setup->advanced->diagnostics. Most home routers use a addresses
that look something like 192.168.1.153, if the Touch's address looks
significantly different, it might not be getting one from the router.

At this point the best thing is to give us as much information as
possible about your setup such as: what computer type is the server
running on, what OS it has (Windows 7, XP etc), how is the computer
connected to the router, how is the Touch connected to the router, any
other network hardware (switches, wireless access points etc). When
does the "can't talk to anything" happen, all the time, just once in
while, it works after a reboot but then stops after some amount of
time, only when switching from an internet radio station or any other
pertinent information about the problem such as it works fine except
when you are popping popcorn in the microwave (don't laugh, it
happens).

The more information we have the easier it is to try and track things
down.

Thanks,

John S.
