Save me from pulling all of my hairs out!
I bought a squeezebox touch recently and am having a hell of a time
getting it to work on my university's network. I have SSH'd into the
device and added recommended values for the two networks present on my
campus into the WPA_supplicant.conf file (borrowed from the
university's network page...templates were said to work fine for
linux), with no luck for either one. Ethernet connection doesn't work
as I need browser access to authenticate after connecting which the
squeezebox can't do. I have tried connecting to the internet via
ethernet on my macbook and using it as a wifi point but the squeezebox
gives me a wrong password error (despite the password being correct)
using the 128-bit WEP encryption and I don't want to leave the network
open if I will be sharing internet through it
One network on campus I can't even try to connect to as the squeezebox
will say that WPA (or wep?)-EAP and WPA2-EAP are not supported. The
other one I can connect to, but it can't connect to the DHCP server and
I am left to self assign an IP. Once that's done, there is no internet
access and it can't access my library on my mac. Ethernet connects in
the same way.
So basically, my question boils down to this:
Is it at all possible to force the squeezebox to use a certain network
and stay on it/force login? I.E. can I change the necessary files
around to force connect to the ethernet and hard wire my login
credentials there? Same for WiFi if possible, but i'll take anything
at this point.
At this point it seems I may have to buy an AirPort express to create a
local wifi network to access it, but I really don't want to.
For reference, here's the template I was using for the WPA_supplicant
file. I added the certs because I am not 100% sure if I need them to
login or not. This is the network that gives the WPA2-EAP error and I
have switched the SSID to the other network with no luck.
network={
ssid="UIC-WiFi"
proto=RSN
key_mgmt=WPA-EAP
pairwise=CCMP
group = CCMP
eap=TTLS
identity=""
password=""
ca_cert="/etc/cert/Thawte_Premium_Server_CA.pem"
client_cert = "/etc/cert/wireless-auth-2.cc.uic.edu.cer"
phase2="auth=PAP"
}
