yes, doing shuffle all on a very large playlist (all rock!) could be a
problem. It is pretty straightforward once DYNAMIC PLAYLIST is
installed. You then select an option underneath the menu for Dynamic
Playlist. For example, the menu item might be /random, then /for
selected, then it allows you select random by genre, artist, etc. It
does a lot more than just this example, but you get the idea. And then
in the background it feeds 10 (or your choice) songs at a time to the
active playlist window. I also use SQL Playlist plugin to create more
specialized random playlists. This works in conjunction with DYNAMIC
PLAYLISTS.

Install these from LMS > SETTINGS > Plugin tab. Be sure to check the
"show all 3rd party plugins" to see the options. Erland now charges for
these plugins and you also need his "license manager" plugin. But I
believe he has a 30 day trial.

Also note: playing and searching via browse music folder (BMF) is
probably the least efficient way to use LMS. BMF is really meant for
playing a file or two recently added to your computer before you've
done a library scan, etc. I'm told that using BMF requires a lot more
processing power on the part of LMS.

If you are using BMF becausee you don't have good tags (metadata), but
your directory structure and file names are good (e.g.,
ARTIST/ALBUM/track# - tracktitle) or something similar, you can use
MP3TAG to fill in metadata from file info in a simple batch approach
using the option FILENAME - TAG (and it gives you the options to edit
the conversion "mask" to fit your filename information. Very easy to
use and does filetypes other than just mp3.
