[1] The spot where I want the SBT to sit is far enough away from my
router that I don't trust the stability of the wireless connection
(based on my experience with my laptop when I have it there); I want my
listening to be free from glitchy interruptions;

[2] Even though it's possible that, for these purposes "bits are bits",
I've heard anecdotal reports of WiFi-transmitted audio data yielding
sound quality inferior to data coming through wires. Given reason [1],
reason [2] makes me lean towards a wired setup.

OK. #1 is certainly an issue. #2 is completely wrong of course (but I
recognize that plenty of folks on the web do say this). The bits don't
care if they arrive via WIFI or ethernet. Sound "quality" is not affected,
but of course if the WIFI connection is not good, you may get buffering,
stuttering, etc. which is not good obviously.

A few options you might want to consider:

1. Something like ethernet over power. I use this (one is plugged near
router one near SB player), thus creating an ethernet connection to the
Touch from your original router, network. There are many options, I use
this one:

2. At a separate location I use MoCA to use ethernet over cable TV lines.
I use this

With either of these options, you can also connect to a switch and then
connect your touch and other internet capable devices at the same time
(e.g., TVs, roku, etc.). I use these:

All this stuff is basically plug and play and allows one to gain ethernet
connections back to router without running ethernet cable.
