Well ... I do now. Forehead slap moment for sure. :o I looked at
sample rate more times than I can count, but never looked at bitrate
line.apple lossless: disabled

Per your suggestion, I've changed settings to observe behavior of touch
+ (edo digital out to dac) and stock touch playing the same 192 sample
rate file. These 2 devices are NOT synced, and are the only two devices
getting data from LMS. Here's what I am seeing:

(1) server setting =
alac: native
flac: faad/sox
mp3: disabled
pcm: disabled
touch +: 4847 vbr
touch: 4847 vbr (converted to 705 flac)
task manager shows both faad and sox launched and active.

(2) server setting =
alac: native
flac: disabled
mp3: disabled
pcm: disabled
touch +: 4847 vbr
touch: 4847 vbr
task manager shows neither faad nor sox launched.
The touch + continues to play and stock touch gives message "unsupported
sample rate" and it does not play.

Since you reported you could not get native alac to play 96 rate files
on your stock touch, I did try stock touch with this setting (alac
native, all else disabled) on 96 sample rate file. It did NOT report
"unsupported sample rate." The "more info" bitrate line read 3231 vbr.
The music played.

Thank you for your patience in walking me through this.
