If there is a significant audible difference between using a USB
connection instead of coaxial, it is because design issues with the DAC.
Some earlier DACs didn't do USB very well. There are some theoretical
advantages with an *asynchronous* USB connection (only on newer DACs),
but the DAC would have to be designed to take advantage of the benefits.

There is very little evidence to suggest a correlation with modern DACs
that do clock regeneration. 

It is also funny that while jitter (clock instability) is easy enough to
measure and compare, the benefits claimed tend to be in areas that are
hard to define, quantify and measure - and thus verify.
