Storing on a 2 drive NAS is sensible. It's a low power device and if you add a Pi for LMS which is also lower power you can leave it on.
The Pi starter kit from Amazon is where to start it has averything you will need. Flash the SD card with either picoreplayer or max2play. If the former. Add the additional file system module and then mount the NAS and install LMS. This is all through a web browser.
