Exactly.
I thought the OP already had a NAS but either way it is the same
result.

The ONLY caveat is if you use a USB attached to the Pi and picoreplayer
then you will have to use something like WinSCP to upload files to it.
max2play includes a samba server (windows file sharing) so its easier
from that point of view. A NAS would also be visible directly to Windows
and is the best overall option as you can use it for other purposes.
