Email is a minimal interface. Would it be too hackish to convert email2trac? "email2trac2email" could respond to certain messages as queries (i.e. list tickets with a keyword, list info for a specific ticket, and optionally assign/close the ticket). Adding photos should also be possible. It's ugly, but it seems like it wouldn't take many changes. email2trac supports attachments and updating tickets.
