I fairly sure you are incorrect.  email2trac handles ticket updates
just fine on my trac installation.  See the ticket_update option
documented here:

https://subtrac.sara.nl/oss/email2trac/wiki/Email2tracConfiguration

If you set ticket_update to 1, incoming emails will be parsed and
become followups to existing tickets.
