You wouldn't believe how many times I've done that. I do most of my
bench testing with a current limited power supply, so that when I plug
in something with a short it doesn't necessarily blow up right away.
I'm constantly forgetting to crank the current back up when testing
radios. I really need a power supply that beeps or something when it
goes into constant current mode.

That's my sentiments, exactly. Been there, done that waaaay toooo many times too cough, cough.

In a "perfect world", the power supply would talk to you, saying "You have a short", or "Your load is above your current limit", and, do no harm. Kinda like a hippocratic oath power supply... ;-) Or, it could be snide, and say "Hey, dummy! Wake Up!. Turn the current limit up until your load works, or the magic smoke escapes!".
