I had heard that there was an approach to do this and I tried it myself 
but failed miserably and didn't have time to try harder. I've been 
watching and waiting for this level of tutorial to come by. As soon as 
I can pull the Nuvis out of my vehicles, I'll be doing this.

I suspect that if you set the write-protect on the SD card, you won't 
need to pull it out when doing a Delete All. You'll just have to 
remember to un-protect it to update on the PC later.
