My suggestion would be to drive or fly your own plane, which is what I do.
That said, TSA requirements change almost on a daily basis. You would be better off: 1) going to the TSA site and check their latest; 2) Call the airline and see if you can get some good information from them. The one fact I do know is they will NOT let you take the gear in the passenger compartment. Hence you will be at the mercy of the baggage handlers to leave the gear in your bag when you check the baggage, if you are even allowed that.
