Given the following warning from Page 37 of the DR-135 manual, I suspect my answer is actually No, it doesn't pass the original audio signals through if the TNC card is installed:
"Never connect a PC directly to the DSUB-9 connector if EJ-41U is not installed. It may cause the unit to malfunction." If the EJ-41U actually did the signal passthrough when the radio was not in data mode, then I would think you'd have to disconnect the PC when not actively using the data mode. The same manual also describes that you need to turn on data mode even without the internal TNC to get the 9600 baud signals to come out the back to start with. Bottom line is: I think it'd be safest for me to just disconnect the internal TNC before doing my external TNC experimentation. Pardon the inbox intrusion and thanks for the suggestions. Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ Original message: Probably only if the manual covered the T2-135 (doubtful) or Alinco's own EJ-41U equivalent. When you install the internal TNC, it removes the normal plug from the radio board to the DE-9 on the back and plugs itself in to the radio there. The original DE-9 cable then plugs into the internal TNC board, so the radio itself doesn't really control what the TNC board does.
