In the 837 professional IG it states that the line item control number (pg
472) can be 1 to 30 bytes. Is there any scheme that will be used in this
field, we do not have enough space on our current screens to allow an extra
30 bytes per line and so we planed on truncating in our processing systems .
In order to still use the field to uniquely ID the lines within the
adjudication system we are trying to determine if the last 10 or the first
10 would be more beneficial in identification. If anyone currently works
with this field or has any thoughts around how it will be used I would
appreciate any comments.
