Kala,
We are finding in Utah that provider systems are being modified to create a claim control number/invoice number to put into CLM01. However, this is not happening overnight. So, for now, if you are a payer, I would not bet the house that for all of your provider's will have a unique CLM01 value - it's been an account number for too long for that to change overnight. Our payers are giving providers their own (that is, the payers) claim control number when they accept the claim for adjudication. Then, they can ask (eventually require) for the payer's claim control number on all incoming 276s. Makes life much simplier!

HI,
How can one identify claim uniquely? According to IG, I infer CLM01 can be used. But the question is, is this field unique through out, i.e outside the life cycle of a claim (Lifecycle being 837 to 835) ?
