In-Reply-To: <[email protected]> NET 4 (ETS 300 001), does not contain all of the current requirements for analogue TE for every country in Europe. Many countries now are changing their technical requirements with a view to moving to "essential requirements" only. For example, UK, German and Swedish standards currently are quite different to these country's contributions to NET 4. Other countries do use standards which refer to ETS 300 001 but in so doing make some changes and deletions to the core standard.
The other issue is what you are actually trying to design. ETS 300 001, where it does apply, applies to terminal equipment. You mentioned using SLIC which leads me to assume that you are actually looking to produce a Subscriber Line Interface, ie something which terminal equipment would connect to. If this is the case, ETS 300 001 would not apply at all other than by a few references from country's national standard for SLIs (ie Call Routing Standards, etc). Depending on what you are trying to design and where ultimately you would want to sell largely defines which solution you will use. You need to be wary of using off the shelf, monolithic interfaces of any description if your future marketing plans may take you into new countries which may have not been considered by the designers of the interface chipset. If it is an interface for terminal equipment, my preference would still be to use a low cost solution based on discrete components. We have been using a solution here for some time for example which uses a common PCB but can be populated with different component values to meet the requirements of just about any country world-wide. This gives huge advantages in manufacture, including the possibility of second sourcing components which may not be an option if you use a monolithic solution.
