Vic, For "Self authorization" please look at "FCC Streamlines Equipment Authorization Requirements for Personal Computers" at FCC's URL:
http://www.fcc.gov/oet/ You will find this phrase in the first paragraph, excerpt is also in the enclosure. The other issue was touched by Martin Garwood and you about lab accreditation programs acceptable to the FCC. Relevant FCC documents are available on the same URL. I'll reiterate that ONLY Laboratory Accreditation Programs approved by the FCC (not mutually recognized by NVLAP or A2LA ! ) are acceptable. Few months ago only these two programs were on the list. I added my 2 cents and am getting out of this discussion. Groeten, Mirko ENCLOSURE: FCC Streamlines Equipment Authorization Requirements for Personal Computers Report No. DC 96-43 ACTION IN DOCKET CASE May 9, 1996 FCC STREAMLINES EQUIPMENT AUTHORIZATION REQUIREMENTS FOR PERSONAL COMPUTERS; Deregulation Will Allow Products to Reach Marketplace Faster ET Docket No. 95-19 1. The Commission has adopted new rules to relax the equipment authorization requirements for personal computers and personal computer peripherals from FCC certification to a new SELF AUTHORIZATION PROCESS based on a manufacturer's or supplier's declaration of conformity with FCC standards for limiting radio frequency (RF) emissions. The new rules permit manufacturers and suppliers of personal computers and personal computer peripherals to put a product on the market after testing it to ensure compliance and including a "Declaration of Conformity" ("DoC") 2. In order to ensure that this equipment will continue to comply with the Commission's standards, laboratories testing products under the new procedure must be accredited by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation, or by other organizations approved by the FCC. ---------- From: Victor L. The FCC will accept test reports from laboratories that are accredited by NVLAP, A2LA or certain foreign accreditors that have an agreement with NIST (Standards Council of Canada has such an agreement), as the basis for registration. The labs don't have to be 3rd party laboratories. Never heard of "self authorization". Ciao, Vic Boersma
