Dear Treggers,

Linda Bottero writes:

"This is just a heads up that JATE has made significant revisions to the
approval requirements for Japan on modems. There is nothing published yet
in
Japanese let alone English. If anyone is currently in the process of
obtaining a modem approval, please contact JATE for new forms and
information."

I have been in touch with JATE. The following answer was sent to me by
Yasuo Izumi, Manager, Equipment Approvals Department at JATE, in a faxed
letter dated May 12, 1997:

"We do not have any revision for technical Conditions for analog modem. We
are only agency to examine the applications according to the stipulations
of MPT ordinance.

Therefore, it would be much appreciated if you could provide us who
informed you such information."

Since JATE seems to be concerned about the origin of this rumor, I'm sure
they would be glad to hear from Linda, who may like to contact Yasuo Izumi
at JATE, fax no. +81 3 3591 4355, or by e-mail to [email protected]

I have suggested to Izumi-san that JATE have someone join TREG, and hope
this helps.

Incidentally, I see from their reply that JATE now have a Web site:
http://www.sphere.ad.jp/jate

Best regards,

David Drori
