I cannot fully agree with Hans. We are exporting tobacco processing
machinery all over
the world and we encountered following three phase systems:

Europe (continental)
400V/230V, (sometimes 380V/220V). , 50Hz
Normally you encounter a Y configuration with
earthed central point (TN, TNS, TNSC, TT according to IEC 38).

US
480V or 460V phase to phase., 60Hz
Delta or Y configuration.
With delta configuration one always has a IT-Net.
Even Y configurations are not always connected to earth (IT)

Canada
575V phase to phase, 60Hz.
    Mostly IT networks.

Japan
>From electrical point of view, Japan is divided in two countries:

230V Phase to Phase, 60Hz
Delta configuration, one phase connected to earth !!!

400V/230V 50Hz, as in Europe.

If the configuration is different from Y with earthed central point,
it is you'll probably get into troubles because the voltage of some
phases
to earth is higher than the rating of the capacitors in the power line
filters.
Leakage currents are also very high.

Hope this helps
