I assume that by "model number" you mean the "manufacturer's model or
type reference" per IEC 950 section 1.7.1.  This should require only an
amendment to most certifications, i.e. replacing the former number with
the new number.  This will result in administrative cost to issue amended
certificates etc.  This assumes that only the power rating label is
changed,
not the hardware.

Testing is to verify that hardware meets the appropriate requirements.  Any
agency that requires re-testing to change the type/model designation may
be desparate for new revenues.  [My opinion.]

I am trying to get some clarification regarding re-certification of
products if the model number changes. It is my understanding that if you
change the model number of a product you may have to re-certify it. Does
anybody know of the section which covers this?
