If we assume you are talking about a product for the US or Canadian market, and this product is intended for direct connection to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) then "yes" there are requriements. Both FCC Part 68 and Industry Canada CS-03 require that the connector on the product used at the network interface be one of the prescribed connection arrangements defined in those standards. For each given interface type there are one or more acceptable arrangements. There is a connector arrangement that provides standard loop start interface through the 8-position connector and its RJ61. Refer to ATIS Technical Report No.5 for more details. For other countries I cannot speak. You will need to do some research regardless of the market. Hello listmembers, Here is an interesting question put to me by our design engineers. They want to use RJ-45 jacks on all telephone interface types, including a standard telephone interface. Is there any problem from an approvals perspective using an RJ-11 plug in an RJ-45 jack? Our designers claim they fit, but it seems forced to me. Opinions? Regards, David.
