No recent experience, having switched to Verizon in the summer of 2007
after 9 years with Voicestream/T-Mobile and subsequently having switched
to Sprint THIS summer, but both T-Mobile customer service and the
T-Mobile tech guy in the store told me emphatically that I should get a
new SIM card annually to "keep up with changes". I have to say I was
skeptical, but reception seemed to be better when I did what they
advised.

It is T-Mobile's lack of support for the Treo line that was a big factor
in my defection, and also caused my sister and brother-in-law to become
happy 755p users with Sprint. T-Mobile is going its own way, and it's
not with Palm. Bummer.

Cheers,
Don

Subject: [Treo] 3G GSM system?

I received a new 680 unlocked GSM phone last week. It worked fine for
about
24 hours. Then it started randomly rebooting spontaneously. When it
wasn't
doing that it wouldn't always connect to the T-Mobile system. When it
wasn't
doing that it would drop calls or reboot mid-call.

Palm Corporate Customer Support said all of these problems were caused
by
the SIM. They said the phone requires a 3G SIM. T-Mobile doesn't operate
a
3G system. They gave me the most up-to-date SIM they have and for the
following 3 days the phone has behaved as it should.

Palm Corporate Customer Support even told me I should return the phone
for
credit if I don't get a 3G SIM. Yet I can't find one notation that this
as a
requirement for successful operation of the 680 in any of Palm's sales
or
support info. on their website or the website of the Palm Store.

Is anyone familiar with this?
